BAIT BAIT AND MORE BAIT!

Every fishing day has the potential to be great as long as you  have the right bait!  The Rod Room offers every type of of bait known to man.  Our frozen bait is premium in the sense that it doesn’t stay frozen for very long due to the turnover of bait we sell. Have your every purchased a pack of frozen mullet only to find out that when they thawed you’re left with nothing but bait so old that it might as well be dog food. Rest assured that will never be the case at The Rod Room. Here’s a quick summary of the bait we have in stock and some of the most widely used applications.

Shrimp

(Live or Dead) From 20lb Snook to quarter pound fish such as grunts, catfish and pinfish, nothing will pass on a shrimp….including humans! “Another shrimp cocktail please”

 Mullet

Good for Snook, Jack, Tarpon, Barracuda, Bluefish and just about anything that dwells the ocean in or offshore. During the summertime you can stroll along the shorelines of West Palm and witness the schools of Mullet being bombarded, showering the surface by and endless number of predators.

Spanish Sardines

Excellent for cutting into chunks and pitching into schools of Dolphin. Candy for Snook, Sharks, Grouper, big Mutton Snapper and many more.

Sand Fleas

Excellent choice for Whiting and Pompano

Squid

Good for inshore and offshore fishing, Squid can be cut into small pieces for smaller fish that congregate around piers, seawalls, grassbeds, etc. Many anglers who are budget consecience will use these because they have very tough skin making it very hard to fall off the hook. I once caught 14 Pinfish and Grunts on the same piece of squid!

On a different note, Squid may be used whole for several hundred pound Swordfish.  This is a very intricate process that requires heavy tackle and well equipped preparation. If Swordfish are on your bucket list speak to Chris about hiring a guide for the first couple times out.

Ballyhoo

Sold in 4 categories. Rigged with Mono(Frozen). Rigged with wire(Frozen), Fresh Dead(this means that the bait is typically less than 24 hours old and kept in a salt brine and ready for your selection.) For the more advanced, fresh dead ballyhoo yield you the option to rig the ballyhoo to your desire but we encourage you to call ahead to confirm they are in fact in stock as they are seasonal.  Ballyhoo are another premium choice for both inshore and offshore fishing.  As mentioned above we offer the choice of prerigged in Mono or Wire contigent upon what your planning on trolling for.  If Dolphin are being caught by the boat loads and that is your goal, Mono will be the way to go.  On the other hand, if your in pursuit of wahoo and kingfish than wire  your best bet.  The best part of all is that you don’t have to figure it out!  Since they’re prerigged buy a couple packs of each (right now we’re running another promo!!- buy 2 of any and get the third for free).  Chris will gladly show you which snap swivel to tie on to the end of your line for easy assembly and off you go! Ballyhoo are ideal for Dolphin, Wahoo, Tuna, Sailfish, Kingfish and plenty more. They are also an all time favorite for bottom fish such as Grouper, Mutton Snapper, Porgies, Hogfish and any anglers targeting the reefs.

CHUM

There’s an old saying and it goes like this “No Chum….No Fun”

For those who don’t know…”What is Chum and why is it so important?

.  Chum is a grind of bait consisting of fish parts, bone and blood which attract fish of all kinds. It is primarily used for two purposes.  The first is too raise bait fish(ballyhoo, pilchards, herring, cigar minnnows, etc) to the top of the water so anglers can proceed to catch them and fill up the live wells, whether that be with hook and line such as a sabiki rig (which the we carry at the lowest prices on the market) or cast nets.

The second practical use is to actually raise the fish we desire to catch to the boat via chum slicks. Whether your fishing the bay in 6 ft of water or deep fishing in 20 to 100ft,  chum is a necessity!!! It creates a platform for some red hot fishing!  The only thing required to get the chum in motion is a chum bag which you will find plenty of at The Rod Room.  Again, I can not emphasize enough..NO CHUM- NO FUN!

Pleasue consult wth Chris and he will have you ready to rock and roll….who knows what special he has going this week.  I bought 2 chum backs and got my third for free. The promoions never end.
